A History of the Union Campaign at Lodi

October 2022-January 2023

A large majority of workers signed union cards authorizing RWU-STR to represent them.


January 25, 2023

Once 2/3 of workers had signed union cards, we decided to “go public.” Around 20 workers went to the Lodi office and presented Ignacio Mattos with a signed letter explaining our intention to unionize, including a list of demands. We asked for voluntary recognition.

January 27, 2023

The company refused to recognize us, so we filed for an NLRB-run union election.


January 27-February 28, 2023

Mattos Hospitality and Lodi ran a union-busting campaign that, according to the government, made the February 2023 election unfree and unfair.


March 20, 2023
 

To protect immigrant workers from harassment by management, the Biden-appointed head of the NLRB, Jennifer Abruzzo, issued a letter offering work visas for immigrant workers at Lodi.


March-October 2023

The NLRB conducted a 7-month investigation, collecting evidence from both sides. After carefully weighing the evidence, they announced federal charges against the company, finding that the company should recognize and bargain with the union.
